The fourth day of the Buddha Rashmi Vesak Festival of Gangarama Temple in Hunupitiya was dedicated as the Civil Defence Day.

Mr. Chandrarathne Pallegama, Director General, Mrs. Lakshmi Pallegama, President. Seva Vanitha Unit and Rear Admiral Shemal Fernando, Additional Director General participated in the colourful religious procession from the temple to the Seema Malakaya.

On completion of the procession and religious rites the cultural troupe of the Civil Security Department performed whilst large numbers of colourful lanterns made by Civil Defence personnel were also on display in the precincts of the temple.

The Civil Security Department Spearheaded by the Director General Mr. Chandrarathne Pallegama provided cooked meals, water bottles and dry provisions to personnel affected by the floods in Wennawatta area of Wellampitiya on 20th May 2016

The 22 Battalions and 5 Training Schools of the Civil Security Department Chipped in with over Rs. 7 Million worth of essential food and medical items for those distressed as a result of floods. Here Mr. Chandrarathne Pallegama, Director General, CSD handing over the consignment to Eng. Karunasena Hettiarachchi, Secretary, Ministry of Defense for presentation to Mr. S. Miyanawala, Secretary, Ministry of Disaster Management on 23^rd May 2016.

The inaugural Colours Awarding Ceremony of the Civil Security Department was held at BMICH, Colombo on 3^rd May 2016 under the patronage of His Excellency the President.
