The Civil Security Department had taken quick and much needful measures to deploy 2100 of it’s cadres to clear and provide assistance to Civil Society who were the victims of recent floods and earth slips. The Troops from Wilpaththu, Anuradhapura, Vavuniya, Kuragala, Kebithigollewa, Kilinochchi, Medirigiriya, Mullaitivu, Puttalam, Seruwila, Mahaoya, Uhana, Monaragala, Gomarankadawala, & Katunayake, Mainly utilized in Ratnapura, Galle, Hambantota, Kalutara, and Matara Districts as per the requirement by the local authorities.
The fourth day of the Buddha Rashmi Vesak Festival of Gangarama Temple in Hunupitiya was dedicated as the Civil Defence Day.
Mr. Chandrarathne Pallegama, Director General, Mrs. Lakshmi Pallegama, President. Seva Vanitha Unit and Rear Admiral Shemal Fernando, Additional Director General participated in the colourful religious procession from the temple to the Seema Malakaya.
On completion of the procession and religious rites the cultural troupe of the Civil Security Department performed whilst large numbers of colourful lanterns made by Civil Defence personnel were also on display in the precincts of the temple.
The Civil Security Department organized two Blood Donation Campaigns through Katanayake Force Hq and Wennawatthe Force Hqon 25th and 26th April respectively joining hands with the National Blood Bank. These programmes were conducted at 18th Post, SubodharamaVihara in Katunayake and Sri KalyanivanshikaramaVihara in Wennawatthe.
The Civil Security Department utilized 200 guards to Remove/Cleaning of Karambewa Tank which expands for more than four acres. The tank was filled with unwanted aquatic plants, which was restricted natural water flow to nearby Agricultural lands and personnel use. Cleaning of this tank would definitely help the villages at Karambewa Wewa for their better day to day life.
This was followed by the opening of newly constructed Sub Sector office at Horuwila which was erected under the direct supervision of Puttalam force Hq commander Lt Col. YM Punchi Banda.
The Director General of CSD Mr. Chandrarathne Pallegama took the leadership in directing the gurds and relevant officers at both occations.
The Civil Security Department made a significant contributions to provide temporary shelter for the displaced personnel from the debacle at Meethotamulla by undertaking complete overhaul of a paddy storing building by providing a work force that was committed towards the task round the clock.
